Meeting Description:
The 5th International Conference on Linguistics, Literature and Culture
(ICLLIC 2019) will be held on 29 and 30 July 2019 at the Wembley Hotel in
George Town, Penang, Malaysia. This conference is the fifth installment of
the ICLLIC series organised by the English Language Studies department of the
School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
The theme of ICLLIC 2019 is 'Change and preservation in language and culture
in Asia' which presents an opportunity for researchers to address the present
realities of our lives where rapid changes are taking place at every level of
the society. These changes may be viewed positively, particularly in the
relation to issues of heterogeneity, multiculturalism and differences, but
they are viewed also as elements of instability and uncertainty that engender
anxiety and resistance, and that challenge traditional identities, roles,
relationships, and the preservation of way of life and values. This is
especially significant in Asia where the onslaught of global encounters may be
more challenging given the values, traditions and beliefs held by eastern
cultures.
ICLLIC 2019 is a fitting platform to address this, so we invite researchers,
academics, educators and students working in language, literature, culture and
related areas to submit papers on issues of change and preservation,
especially within the highly multicultural and multilingual Asian contexts
that will provide new insights that can contribute towards better global
interaction and understanding.
