Description:

The Center for Cognitive Science of Language of the University of Nova Gorica
(http://ung.si/ckzj/en) invites applications for a 12-month postdoctoral
position in experimental linguistics/ psycholinguistics/ cognitive science.

The position to be filled is funded by the FP7 (the European Union’s 7th
Framework Program for Research and Technological Development) collaborative
research project “Advancing The European Multilingual Experience” (AThEME;
grant agreement 613465, http://www.atheme.eu) studying multilingualism in
Europe. The project involves 17 institutions across 8 European countries and
runs from March 2014 until March 2019. As part of the project consortium,
members of the Center are involved in investigating syntactic and pragmatic
aspects of multilingualism, the role of the regional languages, as well as
potential cognitive benefits of multilingualism.

Applicants are expected to
- have their Ph.D. by the time of appointment,
- have a strong background in theoretically-grounded experimental linguistics,
psycholinguistics and/or cognitive science, preferably experimental syntax or
pragmatics. A proven research experience and an active research agenda that
concerns linguistic and/or cognitive aspects of multilingualism is an
advantage,
- be able to work independently, as well as work in a team taking an active
role in designing, organizing and conducting behavioral experiments,
- have a fluent command of English. Native or near-native fluency in Italian,
German or Slovenian is a plus but not a requirement,
- take on moderate teaching obligations (depending on student enrollment and
the needs in the University’s study programs).

The University of Nova Gorica is a young, private and research-oriented
university in Slovenia. It comprises seven schools and ten research centers.
It is a member of the European University Association (including EUA Council
for Doctoral Education). Despite its relatively small size, the University
participates in a number of nationally and European funded research projects,
collaborates with over 40 European and international universities and research
institutes, and participates in academic and research exchange programs such
as ERASMUS and COST. The location of the Center for Cognitive Science of
Language is in Nova Gorica, on the border between Slovenia and Italy. The
Center has an experimental lab featuring modern eye-tracking equipment. The
successful candidate will be employed full-time with a standard University of
Nova Gorica postdoctoral researcher’s salary and benefits.

Candidates should submit the following documents in electronic format:
- cover letter,
- CV (including a list of publications),
- a research statement including the applicant’s proposed work plan for the
duration of the term
- a copy of a representative publication,
- two letters of reference (submitted directly by the referees).

All materials should be sent to tea.stibilj.nemec at ung.si with ' CKZJ – ATHEME
– postdoc’ in the subject line. The position will start on March 1, 2018.
