Linguistic Field(s): Clinical Linguistics

Call Deadline: 16-Mar-2018

Meeting Description:

Speech science has long been used to investigate the physiological
underpinnings of both typical and disordered speech production. Technology
enables us to quantify the phenomena exhibited by the speech motor system with
ever-increasing precision, leading to (i) greater understanding of typical and
disordered speech kinematics and the resulting acoustic signal, (ii) improved
diagnostic techniques relying on speech kinematics and/or the acoustic speech
signal and (iii) the development of technologically-based clinical
intervention tools.

This session will focus on research that integrates speech science and
technology for clinical applications. As such, involvement in the session will
be interdisciplinary in nature, and thus of interest to engineers and those
who work to further speech technology, speech scientists, speech pathologists,
and members of related medical fields, including Otolaryngology and Neurology.

The session will be comprised of oral presentations (20 min. each), and an
interdisciplinary discussion period. It is expected that this discussion will
lead to future collaboration among members of distinct fields, on projects
that will use recent advances in technology and foundational knowledge in
speech science to further advance our understanding of speech disorders and
improve clinical diagnosis and intervention methodologies.

Call for Papers:

Interspeech 2018 will be held in India from September 2-6, 2018, at the
Hyderabad International Convention Centre. We invite you to submit your work
to a special session of Interspeech 2018, Integrating Speech Science and
Technology for Clinical Applications. The organizers especially encourage
submissions focused on:

-Characterizing disordered speech using novel imaging techniques and
analytical methods
-(Semi-) automatic detection of speech disorder characteristics
-Efficacy of biofeedback intervention for speech disorders

Abstract Submission Deadline: March 16

Final Paper Submission Deadline: March 23

Interspeech 2018 Submission Portal Opens February 15
