Meeting Description:
On October 14, 2017, Premier William Lai (賴清德) said he would instruct the
Ministry of Education (MOE) to establish a promotional committee on making
English the nation’s second official language. Legislators and educators
called on the government to make English the nation’s second language, with
recommendations to allocate money from the Cabinet’s Forward-looking
Infrastructure Development Plan to achieve the objective. As this move might
form a policy in the future, our profession needs to voice our views or
concerns about the new development in Taiwan. Similarly, globalization with
rapid local changes stimulates innovative views in our profession and calls
for contingent practices in teaching. At this juncture, the Department of
Foreign Languages and Literature at Feng Chia University will hold the sixth
biennial International Conference on Foreign Languages and Literature Teaching
on October 20, 2018.
