Description:
University of Northern Iowa's Department of Languages and Literatures seeks
applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of TESOL/Applied
Linguistics, beginning August 2018. Teaching responsibilities include courses
in linguistics, second language pedagogy, sociolinguistics, pragmatics,
pedagogical English grammar, and TESOL Practicum for undergraduate and
graduate TESOL majors. Areas of teaching and research include one or more of
the following: general linguistics, second language acquisition and pedagogy,
applied linguistics, and ESL/EFL education.
Education Requirements:
Ph.D. in Linguistics, Second Language Education, or related field required.
Required Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have experience teaching ESL/EFL students
and/or pre-service second language teachers and be proficient in application
of technology (for example, corpus linguistics) to language teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to teach full range of face-to-face and online courses
in TESOL and applied linguistics.
- Evidence of an active research agenda and record of teaching in English also
required.
Desirable Qualifications:
- One or more of the following: teacher licensure in K-12 core subjects and/or
ESL
- advanced proficiency (ACTFL scale) / limited working proficiency (ILR scale)
in an additional language
- demonstrated commitment to department service and community engagement.
