Description:
Part- and full-time internships with The Language Conservancy, available from
July 2018 through mid-August 2018.
The Language Conservancy, based in Bloomington, IN, partners with Native
American tribes, linguists and educators to help revitalize Native American
endangered languages. Read more at www.languageconservancy.org
Seeking to fill internship position processing fieldwork audio and text data
collected working with two Native American endangered languages: Acoma Keres
and Crow.
The goal of these projects is to create extensive dictionaries, language
learning textbooks, apps, and other media projects with consistent practical
orthographies. Work will entail cutting and labeling audio, data entry from
hand written notes, and additional tasks relating to analysis and organization
of the data. You will work with our staff and contracted linguists as well as
our expert textbook and app development team and get the chance to consult
with other education and language experts as well as Native American
consultants to help steer all projects to be culturally relevant and highly
valuable to the learner communities. Experience using Praat, Audacity, Google
Sheets, Excel, LanguageForge, and SIL Fieldworks are a plus. Additional
projects in-office may be occur, based on organizational needs, applicant
availability and skill sets.
Housing stipend available for full time interns in Bloomington.
