Meeting Description:

The international Conference The Black Sea as Multi-Cultural Space - pontus
euxinus  is held as a part of the Research in the Humanities, and will focus
on the post soviet politics and its impact on the culture in Georgia. The
conference will take place in Batumi, Georgia. 

Proposals for panels are very welcome. They will be highlight at the
conference.  

The conference will feature panels in the following areas:  

- Politics, Governance and Policy in The Black Sea  region – which will
concentrate on the political reflections on the culture – literatures,
language, translation, art, films, social culture etc.  

following topics are offered but not limited to: 

- Ethnic conflicts involving Georgia and reflection on the culture;  
- Evolvement of the political thought in the post soviet space since 1991 and
social and cultural development 
- Elites after communism; the ex soviet states / The Black Sea region   
- Modern liberalism and conservatism in the post soviet countries and Eastern
Europe – in the new cultural paradigm  

- Political Impact on Writing: Cultures, Literatures and Translation

- panels dedicated  to discussing individual writers and poets from ex soviet
countries
- various themes: construction of identities in literature  
- translation and exile
- history, literature, translation and interdisciplinary research theoretical
approaches including gender studies.    

Translation Studies will be a one of the special focus of the conference, as
it has been part of the cultural and literary studies, apart from the
linguistic approaches, not much has been contributed to the specifically to
the texts of the minority languages of their translation into the dominant
language of the Soviet Empire. Could we hear authentic voices in the
translations? Can we now? 


Call for Papers:

We invite 250-word proposals for 15-20 minute individual presentations or
one-hour panel discussions with up to 4 speakers on the topic of borders,
place, and translation, broadly conceived.
