Meeting Description:
This unique conference is dedicated to the teaching and learning of English
for healthcare. It aims to encourage an exchange of ideas to stimulate
discussion and to provide a platform for the presentation of new ideas,
approaches and material to the understanding of, and teaching of, language and
communication in healthcare.
We welcome proposals that relate to classroom practice and proposals that are
research based and develop our understanding of how language is used in
medicine and healthcare.
The conference attracts language teachers and communication skills trainers
working with health professionals (e.g. nurses, doctors, dentists,
radiographers, physiotherapists) both in training and in the workplace, and
practitioners from the medical translation and interpreting field.

- Content-Based and CLIL
- Language Skills Training (Reading, Speaking, Listening, etc.)

- Assessment (e.g. OET)

- Task-based and problem-based learning
- Academic medical English
- Writing for publication
- Role plays/Simulation
- Corpora in the classroom
- Lingua franca English in medicine
- EMI for medicine
- Teacher professional development
- Medical interpreting & translation
- Intercultural communication
- Communication skills
- Information writing for medicine
Types of Sessions:
(Please indicate clearly which session category your proposal is for)
- Workshop: A practical, hands-on session. 90 minutes
- Practice-oriented Presentation: focused on classroom practice - 35 minutes,
to include up to 15 minutes questions
- Research based Presentation: focused on completed research - 35 minutes, to
include up 15 minutes questions
- Dialogue: An expert in a specific aspect of the field engaging and
interacting with the room (not a formal presentation format) - 35 minutes
- Poster: Posters are especially suitable for academic research in progress
and completed. We’re very keen to encourage such submissions. Prizes will
be awarded for the best posters: Size A0 / A1
Deadline for Receipt of Abstracts: 31 January, 2019
Format:
- 200-300 words maximum (no references)
- Do not use any special fonts, such as bold print or caps (italics fine)
- Do NOT add tables, photos, or diagrams to your abstract
- Do NOT indent your paragraphs, leave one space between paragraphs instead
- Your abstract should clearly summarise the content of your session/poster
- Please add your full name, email address and affiliation (or Private) to the
abstract
- Please indicate which type of session you wish your abstract to be included
in (NB the organisers reserve the right to assign your presentation to a
different session type)
- If the presentation is commercial in nature, this must be clearly indicated
