Location: London, United Kingdom
Contact Person: Christopher Lucas
Meeting Email: cl39 at soas.ac.uk
Web Site: https://www.soas.ac.uk/acilc/
Linguistic Field(s): Forensic Linguistics
Language Family(ies): Arabic
Call Deadline: 21-Dec-2018
Meeting Description:
As part of the AHRC-funded project Arabic and Contact-Induced Language Change
(ACILC), we invite abstract submissions for a workshop to be held at SOAS
University of London on the topic of language analysis for the determination
of origin in asylum cases (LADO), with a particular focus on Arabic. The aim
of the workshop is to bring together LADO practioners and researchers to
compare and discuss methodologies and best practices, current issues and
potential future directions.
Attendance is free of charge, but subject to invitation only, as numbers are
strictly limited. To be considered for attendance, either submit a
presentation abstract (see call for papers), or send an expression of interest
in attendance to the email address provided before 21 December 2018, setting
out your reasons and motivation for wishing to attend. In case there are more
expressions of interest than can be accommodated, priority will be given first
to presenters whose abstracts are accepted, followed by students with a
demonstrated interest in asylum matters and/or Arabic and applied linguistics.
Invitations will be sent out once the abstract review process is complete.
This workshop will followed on Wednesday April 10 by a one-day spring school
on the topic of Arabic and contact-induced change. Further information on this
workshop will be published on the ACILC project webpages.
Call for Papers:
We welcome submission of abstracts for presentations dealing with any aspect
of language analysis in the context of asylum claims, and priority will be
given to submissions in which Arabic plays a central role.
Abstracts should be written in English and should not exceed 300 words. In
addition, references and/or figures may optionally be included, but should not
exceed two pages of A4 (or US 'Letter'). Please submit your abstract in pdf
format by email to cl39 at soas.ac.uk.
Your abstract must be anonymous. You will be asked to submit a version with
your name and affiliation on it if your abstract is selected for presentation.
Please make sure that you do not use your name in the filename for your
abstract, and please erase any details which might identify you in the file
that you submit.
