Description:
In the context of the PhD InPhiNIT La Caixa program associated to the Maria de
Maeztu Strategic Research Program, we are looking for a highly motivated PhD
candidate in the area of Natural Language Processing to work in a project for
the application of deep learning techniques to the summarization of multimodal
documents (texts and images).
The PhD will be carried out at the Large Scale Text Understanding Systems Lab
part of the TALN research group of the Department of Information and
Communication Technologies (DTIC), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in
Barcelona.
The candidate should have experience in Natural Language Processing with a
solid knowledge of statistics, mathematics, computer programming, and machine
learning; in particular knowledge of current methods in Deep Learning would be
highly appreciated. Experience in Information Extraction, Text Summarization,
or related areas would be appreciated.

Benefits for the fellow:
- 3-year contract
- Funding per fellow: 115.092 Euros
- 104.400 Euros (34.800 Euros per year) including salary, employee social
security contribution, income taxes and all compulsory employers’
contributions.
- 10.692 Euros (3.564 Euros per year) for research costs such as conferences
and workshops attendance, short-stays, consumables and intellectual property
costs, among others.
- PhD Award of 7.500 Euros will be granted to researchers that submit their
thesis within 6 months after the end of the fellowship.
- Complementary training programme.
