Focus: Register is variation in language which depends on situational and functional parameters. The autumn school focuses on the linguistic analysis of register in a cross-linguistic perspective and specifically in Czech and Polish, on register-dependent, historical and dialectal variation in language corpora, and on hands-on statistical methods in corpus linguistics and stylometry.

The CENTRAL autumn school "Variation in Language Corpora" brings together
internationally renowned experts in corpus linguistics and register analysis
to teach students and young researchers on topics like
- linguistic analysis of register
- register in a cross-linguistic perspective
- register in Czech and Polish
- register, historical and dialectal variation in language corpora
- hands-on quantitative methods in stylometry and multi-dimensional analysis

Participants can apply for giving a very short (3-minute) presentation of
their ongoing research in a "gong show", to be discussed in detail with the
experts.
Participation is free of charge, but registration by 15 October 2018 is
mandatory.
Students and PhD candidates from universities in the CENTRAL network (i.e.,
ELTE Budapest, Charles University Prague, University of Vienna and University
of Warsaw) can apply for a stipend covering travel and accomodation expenses
(for details visit our website).
