Description:
The Departments of Linguistics and Romance Studies at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill invite applicants to the new Dual Graduate (MA-PhD)
Track in Hispanic Linguistics to begin in the 2019-2020 academic year.
This is a 5-year program in which students work towards an MA in Linguistics
with concentration in Hispanic Linguistics, and subsequently a PhD in Romance
Studies with concentration in Hispanic Linguistics.
Hispanic Linguistics is the study of the linguistics of Spanish and of
languages related to or in contact with Spanish. This includes the syntax,
semantics, morphology, phonetics, phonology, historical linguistics,
sociolinguistics, language acquisition, and psycholinguistics of Spanish,
Portuguese, Basque, Guarani, Maya, Latin, and others.
MA students will be housed in the Linguistics Department
(http://catalog.unc.edu/graduate/schools-departments/linguistics/#text) and
PhD students’ administrative home will be the Department of Romance Studies.
Students will complete coursework and will have the opportunity to teach,
conduct research, and work with faculty in both departments. Admitted students
will receive support in the form of RA-ships and TA-ships in either or both

Located in the Research Triangle of North Carolina, UNC Chapel Hill is
convenient to other prominent universities in the area (Duke University, North
Carolina State University) as well as much of the Mid-Atlantic and
Southeastern United States.
