Assistant Professor of Spanish Applied Linguistics
The Department of Hispanic Studies at Davidson College invites applications
for a tenure-track assistant professor for a position in Second Language
Acquisition in Spanish, with preference given to candidates with demonstrated
academic interest in Heritage Language, technology-enhanced learning, language
pedagogy, Phonetics, Applied Linguistics, and/or Sociolinguistics starting
July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will teach courses throughout our
Spanish language sequence as well as upper-level courses in area of expertise,
conducted in Spanish. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in hand by the
time of appointment although A.B.D.s will be also considered.
The successful candidate will teach four courses his/her first year. After
that year, the regular academic load is five courses per year. The candidate
must provide evidence of potential excellence in teaching, show clear evidence
of an active research agenda, and willingness to participate in departmental
and college-wide initiatives that support Hispanic Studies, as well as
interdisciplinary collaboration that engages with contemporary issues related
to applied linguistics.

transcripts and three letters of recommendation in support of the applicant.

references, from whom letters of recommendation will be solicited by our
system. Evidence of scholarship, including writing samples, may be requested
at a later time. Review of applications will begin the first of November;
preference will be given to those received by November 1.
