Description:
The Department of Modern Languages at Denison University invites applications
for a tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2019 at the Assistant
Professor level. We seek candidates with a graduate degree in Spanish
sociolinguistics, focused on Spanish in the U.S. Candidates with a Ph.D. in
hand and candidates who are ABD will be considered, as long as the Ph.D. is
completed within one year of the start date. Preference will be given to
candidates who plan to complete the Ph.D. prior to August 15, 2019 and those
with expertise in any of the following areas: Spanish in the professions,
heritage speakers, language and power, discourse analysis, or bilingualism and
cultural identity.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to Denison’s institutional mission
of educating in the Liberal Arts tradition and to engagement in service and
governance. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching undergraduate
courses at all levels of the Spanish curriculum, including General Education
courses and seminars in the area of expertise. Evidence of two or more years
of effective college-level teaching and a native or near-native fluency in
Spanish and English are required. The candidate should have an active research
agenda that results in scholarly publications.
This individual will be responsible for teaching 5 courses per academic year,
maintaining an active scholarly agenda resulting in scholarly publications,
and participating in departmental and college-wide activities.
