Assistant Professor, Term, Rhetoric and Language (Composition and Rhetoric)
University of San Francisco

The Department of Rhetoric and Language seeks a full-time faculty member with
expertise in Composition and/or Rhetoric who can demonstrate culturally
responsive writing pedagogy and principles, as well as a commitment to
diversity, inclusivity, and equity in education through scholarship, teaching,
and/or advocacy. The ideal candidate would have a demonstrated record of
teaching and research that complements programmatic priorities and needs, such
as multimodal rhetoric (written/digital/oral) or developmental/multilingual
writing.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, committed, and innovative faculty
that considers the advancement of social equity to be a core value of its
work. USF is among the most diverse universities in the nation, and the
Department of Rhetoric and Language seeks a diverse applicant pool.

The Department of Rhetoric and Language at USF is an independent department
housing the university's required courses in composition/rhetoric and public
speaking, as well as the program in Academic English for Multilingual
Students. The Department of Rhetoric and Language is currently proposing
significant curricular changes, moving toward a multimodal
(digital/oral/written) approach to our Composition and Rhetoric classes.

Term Faculty in the Department of Rhetoric and Language serve on multi-year
renewable term contracts and are eligible for promotion to Associate and Full
Professor.

Job Responsibilities:
Teaching 3-4 courses per semester in undergraduate composition/rhetoric
classes. The candidate will be expected to coordinate a multi-section course
in area of expertise as well as fulfill other service to the department,
college, and university.

Minimum Requirements:
Significant university teaching experience; evidence of a strong commitment to
teaching; experience teaching multiple levels of composition. The ideal
candidate possesses a willingness to work in a culturally diverse environment,
and an understanding of and commitment to the mission of the University. A
Ph.D. or relevant terminal degree with an emphasis in Composition or Rhetoric
is strongly preferred.
