Call for Special Issue Proposals:
Dear Colleagues,
Applied Pragmatics, published by John Benjamins, welcomes proposals for
special issues from prospective guest editors. The journal aims to publish one
guest-edited special issue per volume. Proposals are considered at any time
and should be sent to appliedprag at gmail.com (cc: to Naoko Taguchi
[taguchi at andrew.cmu.ed] and Zia Tajeddin [zia_tajeddin at yahoo.com]). The
subject of the email should be ''Special Issue Proposal for Applied
Pragmatics.'' Inquiries in advance of the submission of a full proposal are
also welcome, and these should be sent to the same email addresses.
Experienced researchers in applied pragmatics are welcome to submit special
issue proposals around the following topics or other related topics which fall
within the scope of Applied Pragmatics. The topics include, but are not
limited to, the following:
- L2 pragmatics teacher education
- Assessment of L2 pragmatics
- L2 pragmatics in online discourse and digital environments
- L2 pragmatics in talk and text outside of educational contexts
- Input and output in L2 pragmatics instruction
- L2 pragmatics and textbooks
- Impoliteness in L2 pragmatics
- Teachers' beliefs about pragmatic instruction and assessment
- Pragmatic abilities of heritage language speakers
- L2 pragmatic development in a study-abroad context
Other relevant topics not listed above are also welcome.
All proposals require Applied Pragmatics editors' approval prior to being
accepted for a special issue. Each proposal should contain the following
information in separate sections:
- Title of the proposed special issue
- Aims and scope, including subtopics, of the proposed special issue
- Novelty and relevance of the proposed topic to the aims and scope of Applied
Pragmatics and the interest of Applied Pragmatics' reader base
- Expected submission rate and potential contributors to ensure that 5-6
manuscripts of the highest scholarly standard will receive final acceptance to
be included in the special issue
- Anticipated timeline, ranging from the initial special issue announcement to
the final acceptance of 5-6 manuscripts
- Guest editor's/editors' research background (main publications related to
the proposed topic) and bio data (in a max. of 100 words)
- Guest editor's/editors' affiliation and contact details
The guest editor of the special issue is responsible for the following:
- Managing the double blind review and revision process by sending out each
manuscript to two reviewers and communicating with the authors about the
revisions required
- Selecting the most quailed reviewers based on the topic of the special issue
- Ensuring coherence among the manuscripts to be included in the special issue
- Ensuring that the author guidelines of Applied Pragmatics are observed by
the authors and that the finally accepted manuscripts are of high academic
quality in language and content
- Sending regular updates to Applied Pragmatics co-editors on the work
progress and making final decisions about the accepted manuscripts in
collaboration with the co-editors
