Description:
The University at Buffalo invites applications for a full-time Assistant or
Associate Professor of Romance Languages focusing in Applied Romance
Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition (ARL-SLA). This tenured or
tenure-track position will serve as the lead faculty member for a new research
core in ARL-SLA. The primary language should be French or Spanish with
knowledge of one additional Romance language (preference for French, Italian,
or Spanish) and or another “minority” or indigenous language (e.g.,
Portuguese, Kreyòl, Catalan, Nahuatl, Quechua) is also highly desirable. The
ideal candidate will have an established track record of obtaining external
funding or strong potential.
The candidate should also have strong interest in online pedagogy. Particular
field-of-research to remain open, but possibilities include:
- Phonology,
- Syntax,
- Sociolinguistics,
- Second-language pedagogy,
- Languages in contact,
- Bilingualism-multilingualism,
- Translation and interpretation,
- Heritage language education,
- Mobile-assisted language learning,
- Haitian Kreyòl and other creole vernaculars,
- Unstructured and or untutored language learning,
- Language-learning technology, among others.
Standard duties for academic-year (10-month) faculty include teaching two
courses per semester, advising and mentoring students, maintaining a strong
research program, and providing service to the Department and University. The
candidate must have received a PhD by the start of the appointment.
