Description:

The Department of Linguistics at University College London invites
applications for the MPhil/PhD programme (full time: 3 years; part time: 5
years) starting in September 2020.

UCL Linguistics offers excellent PhD-level training for anyone intending to
pursue an academic career in research/lecturing in the dynamic field of
linguistics (or adjacent areas within cognitive science). It gives students
unparalleled contact with the top researchers in the discipline and
opportunities to participate in international conferences.

Procedure:
In order to apply for our PhD programme an applicant must have earned at least
a bachelor's degree, preferably a master's degree, or equivalent in
linguistics or a related field. In the first instance, they should check that
we have staff who can supervise research in the specific academic field they

In order to apply for one of these scholarship, you must have been admitted to
the MPhil/PhD program in Linguistics at UCL and given the department’s support
for your application. You are strongly advised to contact and work with your
potential supervisor when completing your application for funding.

Demonstratorship in Linguistics:
The demonstrator will be paid for a total of 180 hours per year, and in return
their tuition fees will be paid at Home/EU rate (see

cs-mphil-phd) and they will receive a full stipend. The position involves
teaching and administrative support related to the BA, BSc and MA programmes
in Linguistics. The post-holder will provide assistance with a variety of
aspects of the programmes.

The core duties involve:
- Preparation and marking of coursework and exams
- Organization and maintenance of Moodle sites
- Management and operation of tutorial groups

In addition the demonstrator may be asked to contribute as follows:
- Provide research methods advice for project students 
- Development of interactive learning resources and assessments
- Delivery of lectures
- Other activities as specified by the Programme Director
