Meeting Description:
Researchers, teachers, doctoral students and students are warmly invited to
participate in the conference ‘Multilingualism from various perspectives of
applied linguistics’, to take place on 20th and 21st April 2020 in the
Institute of Research on Education and Communication of the Silesian
University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland.
Call for Papers:
Conference theme: The overarching theme of the conference is multilingualism
from various perspectives of applied linguistics. We invite presentations of
previously unpublished papers on theoretical considerations or empirical
research, dealing with multilingualism viewed from different angles of this
interdisciplinary research discipline, with reference to native and non-native
languages, languages acquired and used by children, adolescents and adults,
literary or colloquial language, specialist languages, phonetic and
visual-spatial languages, natural and artificial languages.
In particular, papers within the following subject areas are welcome:
1. Linguistics (esp. cognitive linguistics): multilingual discourse, the
linguistic worldview of a multilingual person,…
2. Translation studies: the processes of simultaneous and consecutive
translation, translation of linguistically heterogeneous texts,…
3. Psycholinguistics: cross-linguistic influence in the multilingual mind,
conceptual transfer in the multilingual mind, early multilingualism,…
4. Language teaching: multilingual teaching methods and their effectiveness,
learner variables (e.g. motivation, emotions, personality traits etc.) in
teaching second or third languages, the effectiveness of teaching in line with
the L3 learner’s attributes (such as multicompetence, metalinguistic
awareness, metacognitive awareness etc.),…
5. Neurolinguistics: the architecture of the multilingual mind, processes of
language acquisition from the neurolinguistic point of view, bi-/multilingual
aphasia and other language disorders,…
6. Sociolinguistics: issues related to the identity of a multilingual person,
methods of constructing and co-constructing discourse by multilinguals,…
Keynote speakers: The plenary lectures will be held by the following
outstanding scholars:
prof. dr hab. Danuta Gabryś-Barker, Uniwersytet Śląski (Poland)
dr hab. Ewa Kujawska-Lis, prof. UWM, Uniwersytet Warmińsko-Mazurski (Poland)
prof. Paola Attolino, Universita Degli Studi di Salerno (Italy)
Conference languages: English, German, Polish.
Paper publication: The papers which successfully pass the review process
(double blind peer review) will be published with a high-ranking international
publisher in a collected volume and/or a scientific journal indexed in
international databases. The papers must be written in English or German.
Papers: We expect 20-minute papers (with an additional 10-minute slot for
discussion).
Conference fee: The conference fee is 500 PLN – participant with a paper, 150
PLN – participant without a paper. Students are welcome to attend the
conference for free.

Important Dates:
The registration form must be sent until 10 February 2020 to the following
e-mail address: lingwistyka.konferencje at polsl.pl
The registration form must include the following information: name and surname
of the author, affiliation, e-mail address (in the case of two or more authors
– the e-mail address of the contact person), title of the paper, abstract
(350-500 words, excluding the bibliography, presenting the main goals and
assumptions of the paper) and 5 keywords.
The confirmation of acceptance will be sent before 10 March 2020.
Deadline of the payment for the conference: 29 March 2020.
