William Davies Memorial Panel at ISLOJ 7
6 – 7 July, 2019
Banyuwangi, East Java, Indonesia

In August of 2017, we lost our friend, fellow linguist, and co-organizer, Bill
Davies.  He was a well-respected linguist and enthusiastic scholar of the
languages of Indonesia, particularly Madurese, Javanese, and more recently
Sundanese. We will hold this meeting in his honor, and especially encourage
any work focusing on Madurese or within the research tradition that Bill
pioneered.  A special session with Bill’s former students and collaborators
will be held at ISLOJ 7, where papers will be delivered on topics relating to
fields that Bill pushed forward.  We will also hold a panel discussion
addressing the state of those research areas today, and directions for moving
forward.
