Meeting Description:
This conference aims to present the progress that has been made in the
comparative field of Modern Greek-French and to constitute a meeting point of
exchange among researchers working in different frameworks and theories.
2nd Call for Papers:
International Conference: Comparative Linguistic Approaches Modern
Greek-French
The field of comparative linguistics Modern Greek-French (MG-F), rich in a
long tradition of academic research, has seen in recent decades its resources
and scientific productions grow considerably. Numerous works in institutions
and research laboratories have contributed to the renewal of methods of the
study of MG-F, both in descriptive and theoretical linguistics, as well as in
the field of computational linguistics, didactics, translation, lexicography,
to name a few areas connected to linguistic research.
Important comparative studies on Modern Greek-French have seen the light in
the form of Master's or doctoral theses in several (French) universities, from
the early 80s. The comparative dimension is also present in contributions to
international conferences. Topics include syntax (e.g., collocation,
reciprocity), morphology (diminutive verbs), semantics (quantification,
expression of emotions, cause), pragmatics, enunciation (discourse markers),
lexicon, lexicography, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics,
intercomprehension, intercultural communication and equivalence in
translation.
The recent evolution of descriptive models, the multiplication of available
resources, thanks, in particular, to corpus linguistics, have brought out
approaches transcending traditional grammatical and/or typological categories
making use of large textual and contextual data. The goal is to sketch the
current trends in the comparative field of MG-F and to work on its potential
and visibility in the field of linguistics.
The papers that will be presented in this conference will thus explore themes
that contribute to the renewal of methods and approaches in this field. For
this inaugural meeting, we can consider a number of topics that offer a
relatively broad overview of ongoing research topics in the area of
linguistics. Abstracts approaching, inter alia, the topics listed below are
welcome:
- discourse markers
- determination, indefinites, quantification
- mode and modality
- negation, questions
- derivational morphology (diminutive, meliorative, pejorative, ...)
This first meeting will also serve as a basis for the formation of an academic
network (institutions, research laboratories, etc.) that will promote the
scientific dialogue on MG-F in the form of conferences or regular events
organized by members of that network.
The conference is organized in partnership by the Department of French
Language and Literature of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
and the Sedyl Laboratory (UMR 8202, INALCO-CNRS, IRD). It will be held on
March 20-21, 2020, in Athens, Greece.
Colleagues are invited to submit their abstract (500 words) to the following
e-mail address: grecmodernefrancais2020 at gmail.com. Abstracts should be written
in Greek or French. The deadline for submissions is the 15th of July 2019.
The presentations will last 45 minutes (30 minutes of presentation and 15
minutes for questions).
Organization: Rea Delveroudi (University of Athens), Sophie Vassilaki
(INALCO-SeDyL) and Evangelia Vlachou (University of Athens)
