Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Syntax and/or Morphology
Job Rank: Post Doc
Specialty Areas: Morphology; Syntax
Description:
The Center for Research in Syntax, Semantics, and Phonology (CRISSP) is
looking for a two-year postdoctoral researcher specialised in syntax and/or
morphology.
Responsibilities:
Your tasks include:
- Collecting data about proleptic proforms in Dutch through large-scale online
questionnaires,
- Performing exploratory statistics on those data,
- Developing a formal-theoretical analysis of the data, and
- Helping to prepare a follow-up project application.
All of these tasks form a central part of the project "Towards a typology of
clausal prolepsis". This project aims to provide a new boost to the
decades-old research into proleptic proforms and by extension clausal
integration. The project was awarded to Jeroen van Craenenbroeck (CRISSP/KU
Leuven), Marcel den Dikken (Eötvös Loránd University), and Krisztina Szécsényi
(Eötvös Loránd University) in the context of the Central Europe Leuven
Strategic Alliance (CELSA). For a more detailed description of the project,
see
http://www.crissp.be/projects/towards-a-typology-of-clausal-prolepsis-ttcp/
Profile:
- A PhD in Linguistics, preferably with a specialisation in formal syntax
and/or morphology
- A curious, enterprising, and creative mind; excellent analytical skills
- A proven track record of high quality linguistic research
- Fluency in both written and spoken English. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset
but not required at the time of application. However, since Duch is one of the
languages under investigation, you should acquire a working knowledge of the
language during the project.
- An interest in relating intricate language data to advanced linguistic
theorizing
- An affinity with statistical analyses of language data
- An ability to work both independently and to function in a group
