University or Organization: Western Washington University
Department: Linguistics
Job Location: Washington, USA

Job Title: Assistant Professor of Linguistics (Phonology)
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Phonetics; Phonology

Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Western Washington University is inviting
applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor
beginning September 2020.

We seek a specialist in phonology with demonstrated ability to teach a wide
range of undergraduate courses. The applicant would be expected to teach a
core course in sounds and sound structures, an advanced course in
phonetics/phonology, and other courses in the major, such as introductory
linguistics, linguistic analysis, and upper division topics courses.

Although Linguistics has been an interdepartmental program for 20 years and
has offered a BA in Linguistics since 2002, 2019-20 is the inaugural year of
the Linguistics Department. Thus, the position will be one of the first in the
newly-formed department and the candidate will therefore be able to continue
to shape the curriculum, expanding the department’s research and teaching in
novel ways and complementing existing strengths and research interests of
other Linguistics faculty.

Additional responsibilities include:
- Standard quarter-system teaching assignment (2-2-2);
- Exemplary teaching;
- Active program of scholarly activity;
- Service to the Department through a range of activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill teaching and mentoring
responsibilities in ways that provide equitable and inclusive learning
environments for all students and will offer a strong record of
community-engaged scholarship and research ethics.
