Full Title: Portuguese Semantics in Industry and University
Short Title: PSIU 2019
Date: 22-Sep-2019 - 26-Sep-2019
Location: Porto, Portugal
Contact Person: Luís Trigo
Meeting Email: lptrigo at inesctec.pt

Linguistic Field(s): Computational Linguistics; Semantics
Subject Language(s): Portuguese (por)
Call Deadline: 26-Jul-2019
Meeting Description:
This track aims to put together researchers from industry and academia working
on Portuguese semantics. Spoken by more than 220 million native speakers,
Portuguese, like other languages, has received attention in the industry,
although much of the applied work for Portuguese has actually received a
multilingual treatment. This track aims to be a place to discuss Portuguese
specific characteristics, not always covered by broad multilingual treatments.
Nowadays, we observe an increase in considering semantics in many applied
tasks because reaching a high-level of language understanding needs to have a
solid semantic ground.
We invite researchers working both on theoretical and applied semantics of all
variants of Portuguese (including the language varieties of Portugal, Brazil,
Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, São Tomé, Macau or Galiza) to
take part in this track and discuss the role of Portuguese in Natural Language
Processing and Artificial Intelligence, theoretical aspects of Portuguese
semantics and applied solutions of Portuguese semantics processing.
