Description:
We are looking for a talented Spanish language expert with an innovator’s
mindset regarding language teaching. You will be part of our new initiative to
reimagine and revamp Duolingo courses, and you will bring a vision of new
directions for teaching Spanish with technology. You will join Duolingo’s
learning sciences team and be part of advancing Duolingo’s mission through
research-based practices. Join Duolingo to feel empowered as an educator,
affecting how millions of people learn.
This is an open rank position. We will consider candidates from recent PhD
graduates to more senior candidates with years of work experience. The job
rank will be adjusted accordingly. This role is based in Pittsburgh, PA.
Responsibilities:
- Work side by side with talented learning scientists, curriculum experts,
designers, engineers, and product managers to bring research-informed product
features to life
- Help design curricula and specific content for Duolingo Spanish courses
- Help create assessment tools to measure how Duolingo users learn
- Provide Spanish-related support to multiple teams
- Guide product development to support teaching a variety of languages
Requirements:
- PhD in Spanish, SLA, linguistics, or a related field
- Native or near-native proficiency in Latin American Spanish
- Experience teaching Spanish as a second language
- Experience creating language curricula
- Familiarity with the principles of second language acquisition and teaching
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Ability to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA
- A desire to make the world a better place through technology
Exceptional candidates will have:
- Project management experience
- Experience supervising others
- Experience creating language assessments
- At least basic proficiency in French, German, Italian, Chinese, or Japanese
