Description:
The Indiana University Language Workshop seeks instructors for its Language
Training Center. Language instructors are needed to provide language training
at the ILR 0-to-3 level range in the following languages:
- Arabic/French
- Chinese (Mandarin)
- French
- Russian
- Spanish
Instruction will take place on-site at Fort Bragg (North Carolina), Duke Field
(Florida), and the National Guard Birmingham, AL HQ.
Specific instructor needs and locations are listed below:
- Arabic/French: 1 instructor; Army National Guard Headquarters, Alabama
- Chinese: 1 instructor; Ft. Bragg, North Carolina
- French: 3 instructors; Ft. Bragg, North Carolina
- Russian: 1 instructor; Ft. Bragg, North Carolina
- Spanish: 1 instructor (until Dec 31st); Duke Field, Florida
Each instructor will:
- Work with the IU Language Training Center team, the IU language curriculum
coordinators, and the military relations coordinator to develop and refine
curricula and lessons appropriate to the intake levels and exit requirements
of military partners;
- Provide acquisition or sustainment instruction on a rolling basis to groups
of 5-10 students;
- Deliver courses with schedules, levels, and proficiency goals set by the
local Language Program Manager; and
- Submit monthly status reports and regularly consult with local Language
Program Managers to identify areas for improvement as well as best practices.
Instructors in all locations will serve as full-time, benefits-eligible
visiting faculty of Indiana University.
Appointment will end May 31, 2020, with the possibility to extend another year
if grant is renewed.
Required:
- Native or at least ILR 3 speaker of language
- Experience teaching language to U.S. Students
- U.S. citizen
- Background check
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in language, language instruction, or related
field OR three years experiences teaching language in the U.S. to adult
learners
- Experience in communicative, standards-based instruction
- Experience in accelerated and intensive instruction
- Experience in independent teaching
