Meeting Description:
We are pleased to announce that Language Variation and Change – Australia 4
(LVC-A 4) will take place as a main conference themed panel during the 2019
Conference of the Australian Linguistic Society (ALS), Macquarie University,
Sydney, 11-13 December 2019.
https://als.asn.au/Conference/Conference2019/MainTheme
LVC-A is a biennial meeting of researchers interested in the study of
linguistic variability situated in its social context. We welcome submissions
from all languages and speech communities and invite work offering empirical
quantitative analyses of linguistic structure, with interpretation
contextualized in relation to (socio)linguistic theory.
For this fourth iteration of LVC-A, and in recognition of the United Nations
2019 Year of Indigenous Languages, the panel will include a keynote by Prof.
Nick Evans (ANU; CoEDL) on his work from the ‘Wellsprings of Linguistic
Diversity’ project, incorporating variation into language documentation. We
particularly welcome papers exploring variation in lesser-studied languages.
Call for Papers:
Abstracts should comply with the format stipulated by ALS2019 and should be
submitted by the ALS2019 deadline of 4 August 2019, through EasyChair
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=als2019. Please ensure that LVC-A4 is
selected as the panel of your interest upon submission. The organisers will
review abstracts and send notifications promptly. Abstracts not included for
presentation in LVC-A4 will be forwarded to the ALS2019 conference organisers
for evaluation and, if accepted, will be scheduled for presentation during the
general conference sessions.
