Language Family(ies): Romance
Call Deadline: 15-May-2019
Call for Papers:
Since the beginning of the years 2000, the domain of interactional studies has
been characterized by ''a real burst of works on multimodality'' (Traverso
2012: 8, our translation) - or, in Nevile's terms (2015), an embodied turn.
However, in Romance languages' studies, the multimodal approach still seems to
be relegated to a marginal place today, despite remarkable exceptions (De
Stefani 2011, Traverso 2012, Mondada 2014, inter alia).
This issue aims to reduce this gap by collecting original multimodal studies
of interactions in Romance languages (L1 or L2, monolingual or plurilingual),
in various contexts: ordinary conversations, interactions in commercial
settings, health care, administration, classroom interactions, vocational
training, screen-based interactions and so on.
The purpose of this special issue is to present current works and unexplored
aspects on interactions in Romance languages, to highlight common elements and
viable research paths in this domain. Young researchers working on these
issues are strongly encouraged to submit a contribution, proposals for studies
on languages and varieties that are still under-represented in the literature
(e.g. Catalan, Portuguese, Romanian, dialects of Italy) are very welcome.
Submission format:
This special issue will host selected research papers based on naturally
occurring data in Romance languages (French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian,
Spanish, as well as regional languages) and plurilingual contexts (including
at least one Romance language or variety).
Interested contributors are requested to e-mail a short abstract submission of
about 300 words in English, French or Italian to the guest editors
(bfursi at gmail.com and vanessa.piccoli at enslyon.fr).
Proposals are due by May 15th 2019.
Authors of selected contributions will be invited to submit a full paper of
less than 45000 characters (spaces, footnotes and bibliography included).
Papers can be written in French, Italian or English. All submitted papers will
undergo a double-blind peer review process.
