Description:
The aim of this Boot Camp is to train the participants on contemporary
theories and practices in the area of phonology with their application on
field and laboratory data. Participants will be exposed with the most relevant
frameworks prevalent in the area of (theoretical and experimental) phonology,
and also their comparative preference over each other given choice research
focus. The list of tentative topics to be covered in the workshop is as
following:-
* Contemporary theories:
- Generative Phonology, Autosegmental Phonology, Metrical Phonology,
- Optimality Theory, etc.
- State-of-the-art methods and practices used in collection of
- Phonological field data (for controlled production experiments) audio data
using PRAAT, Wave surfer, and Audacity
- Writing phonological sketch and/or preparing a phonetic reader (for
Endangered and less-resourced languages)
- Questionnaire and experimental design for studying syllable structure,
stress, intonation, tone, articulatory and acoustic features of segments, etc.
- Designing and building speech corpora for researching phonological and
computational research
- Introduction to Articulatory and Acoustic Modeling
