Call Deadline: 30-Jun-2019

Meeting Description:

The system of templatic morphology, as it is found in Afro-Asiatic –
particularly in the Semitic branch of the phylum, differs from the
morphological system of Indo-European in that it is to a large extent based on
discontinuous morphemes. It consists primarily of abstract consonantal roots,
which interlock with vowel patterns and prosodic templates. The study of
templatic morphology has had a substantial influence on the development of
theoretical morphology and phonology, and has gained increasing importance in
comparative syntax and syntactic theory.

The Paris Workshop on « Perspectives on Templatic Morphology » approaches
root-and-pattern based morphologies from descriptive, typological,
theoretical, and contact-linguistic perspectives, aiming at interdisciplinary
dialogue between these different fields.
