Meeting Description:
The Himalayan Languages Symposium is an international conference dealing with
the languages, linguistics and anthropology of the Trans-Himalayan area.
The 26th edition of the conference will be held simultaneously at INALCO
(Paris, France), and at the Centre for Linguistics and Cultural Studies,
Central Institute of Technology in Kokrajhar (Assam, India), on September 2 to
4, 2020. We will videoconference for 4 hours each day (2 general sessions and
1 plenary talk), with the rest of the program being local.
Call for Papers:
The special theme for the conference is reduplication. Other topics are of
course welcome.
Submission Guidelines:
Papers are invited which address any aspect of the languages and linguistics
of the Trans-Himalayan area. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to,
phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics,
sociolinguistics, typology, documentation, including field reports and
empirically-based ethnographic studies, and language technology/computational
linguistics. We also welcome submissions from other fields (such as history,
archaeology, ethnobotany, genetics and anthropology) which can relate to the
history and development of Himalayan languages. Papers are not limited to the
Trans-Himalayan language family, but may treat any language traditionally
spoken within the Trans-Himalayan area, including Indo-Aryan, Tai-Kadai,
Austro-Asiatic, and Hmong-Mien languages, as well as isolates, pidgins and
creoles.
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words, single-spaced, exclusive of data
and references (if any), and should be written in English. Abstracts should be
submitted via Easychair.org, https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hls26
The submission deadline for paper abstracts is February 29, 2020.
