Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics

Call Deadline: 24-Jan-2020

Meeting Description:

The Manchester Forum in Linguistics (mFiL) is an annual conference for
early-career researchers in all fields of linguistics. The aim of the
conference is to share current theoretical and methodological linguistic work
and provide information and advice for postgraduate students, post-doctoral
scholars, and others in the early stages of their scientific career, through
oral and poster presentations, plenary talks, and a careers panel.

Call for Papers:

Submissions for oral and poster presentations in all areas of linguistics are
welcomed. Oral presentations should be no more than 20 minutes in length with
an additional 10 minutes allocated for questions, comments and discussion.
Poster presentations will be presented during a dedicated session on the
schedule. Preference will be given to abstracts which contain implications for
linguistic theory or employ a novel methodology.

The deadline for submissions is 24 January 2020 (midnight GMT).

Authors are permitted to submit a maximum of one single-authored paper and one
co-authored paper or a total of two co-authored papers.

Abstracts should be either one or two pages in length. Additionally, there is
an upper word limit of 750 words. Both these restrictions include optional
extras such as glossed examples, tables, figures, references and the like. The
abstract title, author name(s), institution(s) and e-mail address(es) are
excluded from the word count. It is not necessary to specify the word count in
your abstract.

Authors are asked to use one of the templates provided at
https://github.com/mfil-uom to produce a PDF to be submitted for
consideration. The format of these templates is an A4-sized page with 2.5cm
margins on all sides using a single-spaced 12pt serif font, specifically
Junicode (freely available to download here: http://junicode.sourceforge.net).
Authors may alternatively use another, similar serif font.

Abstracts must be fully anonymous. To this end, do not include your name or
institution in the text or metadata of the submitted file. Please, also make
sure that any references to your own work are in the third person.

Submissions will be made through EasyChair at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mfil2020. If you have not previously
registered with EasyChair, you will need to do so in order to submit an
abstract. Upon submission, you will be asked whether you would like your
abstract to be considered for an oral presentation, poster presentation, or
either of the two.

If your abstract is accepted, you will be asked to supply an editable,
revised, non-anonymous version for inclusion in the book of abstracts (also
using one of the above templates).

This year, a prize will be offered to the best single-authored or co-authored
abstract. The prize will consist of one free registration and one free dinner.

Notifications of acceptance will be sent via e-mail by the end of February
2020.
