Description:

The English Department is looking for an University Assistant without
doctorate (= PhD position; 30 hours a week; fixed-term employment for the
period of 4 years; position to be filled as of now )

Your duties:
- Work and assist in Prof. Ineke Mennen’s Speech Laboratory
- Write a dissertation in the field of second language prosody and/or first
language attrition of prosody
- Participate in existing research projects and develop new ones
- Publish and present research at conferences
- Teach courses (independently and/or co-teaching) and supervise students
- Carry out general organisational and administrative duties

Your profile:
- Master’s degree in English/American Studies, Linguistics or equivalent, with
a specialisation in acoustic phonetics and an outstanding academic record
- Experience with experimental phonetics research
- Knowledge of Praat software and scripting and statistical analysis of data
(desirable)
- Research proposal of a dissertation project on the acquisition of second
language prosody and/or first language attrition of prosody, at least in
concept form.
- Excellent command of (academic) English and German
- Organisational talent and an ability to work well in a team
- Ability for independent research, creativity and originality
- Interest and enthusiasm for teaching and research

Our offer: Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective
Agreement): B1
Minimum salary: The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and
according to the classification scheme is EUR 2148.40 gross/month. This
minimum salary may be higher due to previous employment periods eligible for
inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.
