Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics; Typology

Call Deadline: 03-Sep-2020

Meeting Description:

The Conference on Typology and Grammar for Young Scholars is held annually by
the Institute for Linguistic Studies RAS (Saint Petersburg, Russia).

We invite submissions from young researchers (under 35 years old) working in
all areas of linguistic typology and grammatical theory, whatever the material
and theoretical framework. We especially welcome talks on the problems of
linguistic typology, reports based on authors' original field data, and
corpus-based studies.

The conference program includes two types of talks:
 - Keynote lectures
 - Talks by young scholars

In addition, over a course of several years, a special thematic session was
organized within the conference program. In 2013, the theme chosen for the
section was grammaticalization, in 2014 it was agreement, and in 2015,
negation.

The first Conference on Typology and Grammar for Young Scholars took place in
autumn 2004 as an initiative of ILS RAS and Saint Petersburg Linguistic
Society. Since then, the tradition has continued annually, and the number of
languages presented at the conference has been steadily increasing.

Invited Speakers:
David Gil, talk title to be announced
Christian Lehmann (University of Erfurt), “Universals and types of body-part
grammar”
Andrey Shluinsky (Institute of Linguistics, Russian Academy of Sciences),
“Intragenetic typology and serial verb constructions in Kwa as a case study”

Call for Papers:

Submissions from young researchers (35 years old and younger) working in any
area of linguistic typology, corpus linguistics, grammar and phonology are
welcome. Each talk selected for presentation will be allotted 20 minutes
followed by 10 minutes of discussion. The official languages of the conference
are Russian and English. Abstracts can be written in either language. Note
that the abstract should not exceed 4000 characters (counting spaces),
excluding references, otherwise it will be rejected on formal grounds. In the
abstract, please define the problem, methods and findings of the research. One
individual may be involved in a maximum of two abstracts (maximum of one as
sole author).

The deadline for abstract submission is 3 September 2020. Anonymous abstracts
should be submitted via the conference website.

For submissions in English:
https://www.youngconfspb.com/e/abstract-submission.
For submissions in Russian: https://www.youngconfspb.com/podacha-tezisov.

All inquiries can be addressed to the conference email box:
youngconfspb at gmail.com.

The decision of the Organizing Committee on acceptance/rejection of
submissions will be announced to authors no later than 19 September 2020.

There is no participation fee.

We understand that sticking to the schedule outlined above might turn out to
be impossible due to the current movement restrictions in many countries,
including Russia. We will make an announcement on any possible schedule
changes in case any information on reasons why the conference cannot be held
this November comes up.
