Subject: Request for acoustic data
Dear all,
I am an italian student who is working on a Master thesis in Linguistics at
the University of Bologna.
The general topic is phonological markedness. In particular, I would like to
examine the realization of voiced consonants’ VOT in languages missing the
voiceless counterpart.
I cross-referenced information from WALS
(https://wals.info/feature/5A#2/19.3/152.8), UPSID, PHOIBLE 2.0 and the UCLA
Phonetics Lab Archive and I discovered that only 5 out of 33 languages missing
/p/ have a sufficient speech database, made by 50 words at least: Arabic
(Egyptian), Yoruba, Somali, Hausa and Berber.
I will be very grateful for any advice about any other language whose
inventory misses the “unmarked” counterpart of a segment, as well as for
informations on other available acoustic databases.
Thank you for your help!
