The Leibniz-Center General Linguistics (ZAS, www.leibniz-zas.de) invites
applications for a two-year full-time position in the ERC research project
LeibnizDream (www.leibnizdream.eu), PIs Sauerland, Alexiadou, and Guasti
starting January 1st, 2021 or soon thereafter. The regulations of German
limited term contract law apply. For applicants who haven't worked at ZAS
before the contract would be for 24 months. Pay is at the E9 level of the
German TVöD payscale. Applications for less than full-time hours will be
considered.
Requirements:
- Strong expertise in language acquisition research and statistics
- Native or near-native German and English
- M.A. or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field
Desired Assets:
- Linguistic theory
- Software skills such as Excel, Photoshop, LaTeX, and Keynote
- Statistics with R and STAN
- Git, GitHub, and open science
- Interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills
- Data privacy regulations, research ethics, German daycare system
- Drivers licence for Germany
Duties:
You execute a series of language acquisition studies on German within a larger
research team including the PIs and several postdocs. You supervise several
student research assistants. We target six different areas of
morpho-syntax/semantics, 1) the expression of causation and agency, and 2) of
motion events, 3) the binary connectives, 4) negative concepts such as
exclusion, antonyms, and negation, 5) quantificational concepts including
genericity and distributivity, and 6) dependencies most frequently analyzed as
variable binding (wh-questions, relative clauses, degree clauses).
The project aims for cultural diversity and gender balance of its staff. The
project furthermore seeks to implement the principles of open science. ZAS is
an equal opportunity employer.
