Job Summary:
The School of Social Science and Global Studies at The University of Southern
Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant
Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) position,
beginning August 2021. The successful candidate will pursue a relevant program
of research, build relationships with local communities of ESL educators, and
explore collaborative possibilities with other faculty at USM.
This position will involve teaching existing graduate and undergraduate
courses, such as Multiculturalism for ESL Educators, Curriculum Development in
ESL/EFL, Testing and Assessment in ESL/EFL, and Teaching Second Languages:
Theory into Practice, as well as developing new courses in TESOL for the
Master of Arts in the Teaching of Languages (MATL) program. The successful
candidate will advise and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students and
collaborate with program coordinators to develop an ESL licensure track. We
are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in teacher
education, online instruction, and/or world languages. We seek applicants who
have experience in diverse teaching settings and who are interested in summer
teaching online at the graduate level.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in TESOL, SLA, applied linguistics, or related field by
August 2021, and experience in TESOL, with a record of high-quality teaching
and evidence of a research agenda.
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in TESOL, SLA, applied linguistics, or related field by time
of application, and experience in TESOL and ESL/EFL, with a record of
high-quality teaching and evidence of active research engagement.
