The role:
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Artificial
Intelligence to join the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics. The
candidate will work in one or more of the topics of central importance to the
School of Languages and Applied Linguistics, with special attention to
workplace communication and/or the interface between social media and AI.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing learning materials, including the updating, writing and
redrafting of materials, critical reading, editing associated material, and
the production of audio-visual and online resources;
- Conducting research in languages and/or applied linguistics, with a specific
focus on the interface between applied linguistics and AI;
- Contribute to a pipeline of high-quality publications;
- Promoting equal opportunities across all aspects of School activities
including teaching and research; and
- Developing synergies between teaching and research by developing a personal
research plan that aligns with one or more of the School’s research themes;
- A strong record of research and/or knowledge exchange that is commensurate
to the position.
Skills and experience:
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree or equivalent in
linguistics or a related field, at Senior Lecturer level you will also have a
PHD or equivalent in interactional linguistics, preferably ethnomethodological
conversation analysis and/or interactional linguistics. Evidence of an
emerging research profile in AI and human communication is also essential for
this post.
The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly and collaboratively
with others with the ability to write materials for students studying online
and an understanding of supported open and distance learning.
For a Senior Lecturer post the candidate will also be able to evidence
research and scholarship through publication and/or external funding in
relevant field as well as previous experience of leadership and management.
