Meeting Description:
The Center for Linguistics of the University of Hamburg (ZFS) welcomes
linguists from all over the world to the 42nd Annual Conference of the German
Linguistic Society (DGfS) from March 3 to 6, 2020 in Hamburg. This year's
general topic is:
Linguistic Diversity: Theories, Methods, Resources / Sprachliche Diversität:
Theorien, Methoden, Ressourcen
The topic can be approached from different perspectives: multilingualism,
language contact, language variation, language change, etc. The triad of
''theories, methods, resources'' opens up a theoretical perspective as well as
a discussion of empirical methods and digital resources. In the latter, the
use of technologies and questions of sustainability play a key role. The
concept of resources also includes cognitive/mental resources in
multilingualism or multilingual (inter)action and can be empirically analysed.
The triad thus implies an inter-relation between theoretical and practical
implications.
The annual conference of the German Linguistic Society offers linguists from
all over the world an international forum for presenting their current
research and exchanging ideas. The conference takes place over three days and
includes four invited plenary lectures, 17 working groups, a poster session on
computational linguistics as well as the business meetings of the German
Linguistic Society and the special interest group (SIG) on computational
linguistics.
On March 3, 2020 there are a number of co-located events: a tutorial on
computational linguistics, a PhD students' forum, the Teacher Information Day
of the DGfS Teacher Training Initiative, and the annual conference of the
Working Group on Linguistic Pragmatics (ALP).
