Linguistic Field(s): Phonetics; Phonology
Call Deadline: 13-Nov-2020
Meeting Description:
PaPE 2021 will be held from Monday 21 to Wednesday 23 June 2021 at the
Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Catalonia. It is the fourth Phonetics
and Phonology in Europe conference, following successful conferences in Lecce,
Italy (2019), Cologne, Germany (2017), and Cambridge, UK (2015). Prior to
2015, a series of biennial PaPI (Phonetics and Phonology in Iberia)
conferences dates back to 2003. PaPE 2021 is locally organized at Universitat
Pompeu Fabra and has the support of many research groups in other universities
in Barcelona (UB, UAB, UOC) working in the discipline of phonetics and
phonology.
We invite works aimed at exploring different disciplinary approaches to all
areas of phonetics and phonology, including interdisciplinary research which
investigate the sound properties of language from multiple perspectives:
neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics, computational linguistics and speech
technologies. As such, PaPE strives to be a meeting place for researchers
from different perspectives and methodologies to exchange ideas, promote
further collaboration, and bridge the gap between these topics and
disciplines. In addition to the broad goals laid out above, this year’s PaPE
will also have a specific scientific aim, delving into the topic of “Phonetics
and Phonology: Real-world applications”. Therefore, while submissions related
to any area of phonetics and phonology are welcome, we particularly encourage
contributions dealing with –but not limited to– real-world applications of
phonetics and phonology within the domains of acquisition and teaching
research, multimodal communication, conversational avatars, and health and
clinical research.
Call for Papers:
Those interested should submit their abstracts using the EasyChair link at
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=pape2021
Abstracts should be written in English and not exceed one page of text (A4).
In addition, references, examples and/or figures can optionally be included on
a second page. If possible, use the MS Office Word template provided at
https://pape2021.upf.edu/submission-information/. Abstracts may be submitted
either for a ‘talk/poster’, or as a ‘poster only’. Authors may submit one
abstract as first author and up to three abstracts as a co-author. Please
indicate upon submission if the first author has student status. Choose at
least three Keywords for your submission. As with previous conferences in this
series, selected papers will be published in established journals in the field
of phonetics and phonology.
Deadline for submission: 13 November 2020.
Notification of acceptance will be given by 19 February 2021. Each paper will
have a time for its presentation of 20 min., followed by 10 min. of discussion
and questions.
Workshops proposals should be sent directly via email to the conference
organisers: pape2021 at upf.edu before the Satellite Workshop submission deadline
on October 2nd 2020.
