Call Deadline: 01-Apr-2020
Meeting Description:
The international conference ‘Phraseology, constructions and translation:
corpus-based, computational and cultural aspects (EUROPHRAS 2020)’ will take
place in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) from 31 August to 3 September 2020.
The Europhras 2020 conference will focus on phraseology in the broad sense
(including all multiword expressions such as collocations, idioms, formulas,
proverbs), constructions (as defined by construction grammar) and their
possible interaction with translation and interpreting.
Call for Papers:
The following main topics may for instance be covered:
- Corpus-based approaches to phraseology, e.g. frequency and recurrence of
phraseological units (PUs) in large corpora; phraseology and terminology in
specialised corpora; annotation and detection of PUs across corpora; the use
of corpora for teaching phraseology and terminology; corpus-based translation
studies (CBTS) in the case of phraseology; corpus-based contrastive
phraseology, contrastive construction grammar.
- Computational methods applied to phraseology and construction grammar, as
well as their interaction with translation or interpreting, e.g. automatic
extraction of PUs and of constructions; statistical associations within PUs
and constructions; associations between semantic frames and constructions or
PUs; machine translation in the case of PUs and constructions; computational
approaches to semiotics and culture, in the case of phraseology.
- Cultural studies applied to phraseology and translation, e.g. the
untranslatability of PUs referring to specific cultural phenomena; contextual
issues related to culture and the translation of PUs; historical perspectives
on the meanings of PUs and their translation; the translation of literary PUs
in a given language combination.
In addition to these main topics, other contributions on phraseology in the
broad sense or on the interplay between phraseology and construction grammar
are welcome, e.g. the teaching of phraseology and / or of specific
constructions, idiomatic constructions in language pedagogy, phraseology and
terminology for students in foreign languages or translation, lexicography and
phraseological issues.
Submission:
Both the abstracts and the presentations may be in English, French, German or
Spanish.
Abstracts of about 500 words should be sent to the following address:
