Linguistic Field(s): Language Acquisition
Meeting Description:
This 3-day workshop will focus on meaningful differences in the way children
acquire language. We will explore (a) multiple sources of variation in early
language development, including: children’s linguistic and cultural
environments, their cognitive maturation, and the structural properties of the
languages they are learning, alongside (b) the implications of this variation
for the mechanisms that drive and support early language development, given
the overall robustness of learning in the face of this variability.
Keynote speakers:
Gabriella Vigliocco – University College London
Jennifer Culbertson – University of Edinburgh
David Barner – University of California, San Diego
Call for Abstracts:
We invite abstracts covering any issue relating to variation in early language
development. We especially encourage submissions focused on understudied
populations, cross-linguistic and/or cross-cultural comparisons, and
non-normative language development.
Abstracts for talks and posters should be no more than 4000-characters and can
include up to two figures and/or tables. Submission details can be found at
https://www.mpi.nl/page/mpal-abstract-submission
Abstract submission deadline: June 1, 2020
Registration for in-person and virtual attendance is free but mandatory by
October 1, 2020.
