Subject: New Programs database on new LINGUIST List website
Dear LINGUIST List community,
Last week, we announced a new initiative to revamp our existing linguistics
programs database to better serve students and linguistics programs the world
over. That previous announcement can be seen here:
https://linguistlist.org/issues/31/31-1506.html.
As part of this initiative, we request that program administrations from
linguistics and related departments around the world either submit their
program to our database or update their existing description on our website.
The new version of the programs portal has an extended number of search
options and login-protected access for the program directors or other
designated persons, to be able to directly maintain their profiles. We have
already seen an exciting response from many programs.
The new programs search tool and submission form is located on our new
website: https://new.linguistlist.org/programs/. This new tool will allow
linguistics and language-focused programs to increasingly disseminate
up-to-date information on their programs’ offerings and assist students to
more easily locate programs that fit their needs.
Just a few examples of the information we hope to include are:
-Program name and location, including online programs
-Degrees offered (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, etc.)
-Subfield strengths (e.g., phonology, language documentation, computational
linguistics, etc.)
-Area strengths (e.g., African, Slavic, Romance linguistics, etc.)
-Faculty and their research focuses
-A prose description of the program, etc.
As always, we hope this better serves the needs of our global community. Stay
safe, stay well, and we hope to see you soon on the LINGUIST List!
