Description:
The new Autism, Bilingualism, Cognitive and Communicative Development (ABCCD)
Lab at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, headed by Dr. Stephanie
Durrleman, invites applications for a full-time doctoral position (4 years)
investigating the influence of bilingualism on the cognitive and communicative
development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (developmental age 5 to
11 years). The doctoral student will write a thesis focusing on these issues
in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (matched to the TD children on
nonverbal developmental level).
Applicant should have proven skills in:
- Written English
- Spoken and written French and/or German
- Meeting targets within a timetable
- Team-work
Responsibilities of PhD candidate:
- Bring ideas to fine-tune the research
- Create innovative experimental materials
- Recruit and test participants
- Supervise MA students contributing to the research
- Collaborate with the ABCCD network (i.e. multiple labs in Europe and North
America)
- Code, analyze data
- Publish and present findings in national and international conferences, for
academic and layman audiences
- Participate in doctoral schools for PhD candidates in Switzerland
Required qualifications of PhD candidate:
- Background in psychology and/or cognitive neuroscience
- Marked interest in linguistic, cognitive and communicative development in
the context of bilingualism and developmental disorders
Applications must include:
- Cover letter (summarizing motivation and expertise for the position)
- Curriculum vitae
- Publication list and sample of writing (e.g. Master’s thesis, scientific
article)
- Official university transcripts
- Names and contact information of at least two referees (name, affiliation,
relation to applicant, e-mail & telephone number)
The above should be compiled into a single pdf (“name.pdf”) and sent to
stephanie.durrleman at unige.ch by December 1, 2020.
Earliest starting date 1st of February 2021 (and latest 1st of September
2021).
