Meeting Description:
This symposium is organized and hosted by the Applied Linguistics Research Lab
(ALLAB) at the College of Humanities, Prince Sultan University (PSU). It aims
at promoting Applied Linguistic research in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Area
through bringing together international names and high-quality research in
various Applied Linguistic disciplines. These include, but are not limited to,
Language Learning and Teaching, Second Language Acquisition, Assessment,
Translation and Stylistics, Corpus Linguistics and Discourse Analysis, and
Psycholinguistics and Bilingualism.
In 2020, ALR will feature language studies with an applied focus that support
societal development. This comes in line with the first theme of the Saudi
Vision 2030 with an eye on enhanced education and research opportunities. With
international plenary speakers, carefully selected paper presentations /
posters, and intensive workshops, we strive to offer an exceptional experience
for researchers in Applied Linguistics. The symposium is organized with these
objectives in mind:
- To raise awareness of the recent research findings in language studies.
- To enhance the quality and visibility of Applied Linguistics research in
Saudi Arabia.
- To establish a conducive platform for regional/ international research
collaborations.
- To support budding researchers to learn from prominent research figures.
- To establish necessary linkages between Applied Linguistics research and
its real-life applications, particularly in language teaching and translation.
- To provide consultations to all individuals and institutions in relation to
language studies, including banks, corporations, language schools and
translation institutes.
