We are accepting papers for 20-minute presentations. The focus of the workshop
is legal linguistics. It will primarily address, but is not limited to,
questions such as:
- Can legal linguistics contribute to current discussions and challenges in
analytical and normative jurisprudence? If so, how?
- Are there any similarities or differences between legal discourse and
political discourse? If so, should a line be drawn?
- How can research associations function as exchange platforms of
practitioner’s knowledge and professional experience?
- Does descriptive legal linguistics exist? If not, is descriptivism an
ideology?
- How can legal linguistics provide critical perspectives on law and legal
institutions as arenas of practice?
- How has the SARS-CoV-2 (‘Corona’) outbreak impacted legislative drafting in
Europe?
- Which role should legal linguists play in asylum procedure in Europe?
- Can legal linguistics make a practical contribution to the judicial training
of judges, prosecutors and other legal professionals? If so, how?
- How can legal linguists protect and preserve the constitutional state in
Europe?
- Are there ethical principles and rules of conduct that legal linguists
should always follow? If not, is the draft of the Vienna Declaration
sufficient?
