PhD 6, in Dutch (variationist) linguistics
You will be engaged as a Ph.D researcher in a project aimed at the
investigation of sociolinguistic variation in the extent to which speakers of
(Belgian and Netherlandic) Dutch accept and produce “novel”, “creative” or
“unconventional” uses of different kinds of grammatical constructions. The

less-classic sociolinguistic determinants on the one hand and personality
traits on the other. It is part of a broader interdisciplinary project on
grammatical productivity. A more extensive project description is available
upon request.
Minimal Requirements:
- MA in linguistics, psychology or related field;
- Native or near-native command of Dutch, plus a good working knowledge of
English;
- Experience with grammatical research, preferably in the context of an MA;
dissertation, and preferably with at least a partial focus on (present-day)
Dutch;
- Prepared to engage in good (open science) practices;
- Prepared to function in an interdisciplinary team.
Additional Assets:
- Experience with corpus-based methodologies; and/or
- Experience with variationist sociolinguistic research; and/or
- Experience with quantitative methods of (grammatical) data analysis; and/or
- Knowledge of cognitive-functional and/or construction-based theories of
grammar; and/or
- Knowledge of theories of personality; and/or
- Knowledge of one or more of the other languages investigated in the broader
project, viz. French, Spanish, German, and Icelandic.
