Meeting Description:
CASPSLaP brings together leading experts in the field of the second language
acquisition (SLA) of Spanish and Portuguese pronunciation. The presentations
will include a wide range of topics. By focusing on the breadth of approaches
currently taken by scholars researching the SLA of Spanish and Portuguese
phonology, this conference aims to present the state-of-the-art in second
language phonological acquisition. In addition to the general session, the
conference will feature two special sessions, one on L3 Phonology and the
other on Empirical Outcomes of Explicit Pronunciation Instruction. There will
also be a poster session, as well as an interactive, pedagogy-focused session
called ''Ignite'' that addresses best practices in classroom pronunciation
instruction.
Confirmed invited speakers:
Jennifer Cabrelli (University of Illinois at Chicago)
Germán Zárate-Sández (Western Michigan University)
Call for Papers:
Oral Presentations and Posters:
We invite abstracts for 20-minute oral presentations and posters on any topic
related to the second language acquisition of the Spanish and Portuguese sound
systems, as well as oral presentations for two special sessions.
Special Sessions:
L3 Phonology
Empirical Outcomes of Explicit Pronunciation Instruction
Anonymous, one-page abstracts for oral presentations and posters, with a
second page allowed for references and/or examples, may be submitted at
https://caspslap.spanport.wisc.edu/call-for-papers/ by 11:59 PM CST on
September 15, 2021. Abstracts may be submitted as Word or PDF documents.
Please embed any special fonts. Each author may submit at most one abstract as
sole author and one jointly-authored abstract (or, alternatively, two
jointly-authored abstracts). Ignite submissions will not count against this
total.
Proposals for Ignite:
We solicit proposals for an interactive pedagogy-focused session during which
participants will present brief (ten-minute) micro-teaching lessons. These
lessons should showcase a specific pedagogical technique or activity to teach
a particular sound or process, or to help learners overcome a particular
difficulty.
Proposals should include a detailed lesson plan with a title, statement of
objectives, summary of steps or tasks, the developed activity/activities
itself/themselves, and suggested follow-ups (for example, other activities,
homework assignments, and/or assessments), plus any references. Submit
materials at https://caspslap.spanport.wisc.edu/call-for-papers/ by 11:59 PM
