- Students will gain a broad understanding of pragmatics in the Anglophone tradition

- Students will acquire familiarity with an actional approach to grammar and its role in accounting for the forms of utterances

Starting Sep 13 2021: Pragmatics Through the Prism of FDG
A free online (Zoom) course with Lachlan Mackenzie
The course, which will be given in English, aims to introduce participants to pragmatics in the Anglophone tradition (Austin, Grice, Searle, Leech, Levinson, Sperber & Wilson, etc.) and also to Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG) by approaching pragmatics through the prism of the Interpersonal Level of FDG.
The course will take the form of synchronous online lectures, with ample opportunity for questions and discussion. Students are encouraged to participate actively and critically and to offer cross-cultural observations.
