Job Title: Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Indiana University, Bloomington,
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant
Professor in Spanish Heritage Language & Linguistics to begin in the fall of
2022. Specifically, we seek to hire an outstanding researcher and teacher
whose plan of inquiry uses current approaches in linguistics to further our
understanding of Spanish as a heritage language in the United States. The
successful applicant will maintain an active research profile in any area of
linguistics, provide collaborative expertise on our newly formed three-course
Spanish heritage language sequence, and be able to teach undergraduate-level
Spanish heritage language courses, undergraduate-level courses in Spanish
linguistics (e.g., Bilingualism in the US, Acquisition of Spanish,
Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics) and graduate-level courses in the
applicant’s areas of research specialization (open, provided the applicant be
able to teach the aforementioned courses). Additional professional duties
include active mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and providing
service to the Department and University, especially to support heritage
students of Spanish. A Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics or similar field is
required at time of appointment. Experience using experimental approaches to
linguistic analysis, developing heritage language courses, teacher training,
heritage language course materials creation, and community-based learning
experience is highly desirable.
